January 23 - 27

What an exciting week we've had!  We started our week with a safety talk about all the new equipment we could use in the gym.  Then we got to use the climber and all sorts of big shapes and gym mats with partners.  It was fun because we got to do so many different things.  We are looking forward to Mission Impossible because it's going to be a fun challenge and really interesting.

In Math we've been learning about 2D and 3D shapes.  We got to make castles with plasticine and we also learned about measurement as we drew a 2D house using circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, and pentagons.  (We also learned about using commas in series! Check out the punctuation in that last sentence.  OMG!)

In Science, we are finally all finished working with magnets.  We are now starting to explore all about temperature and the difference between hot and cold.  It could get interesting!

We had a little extra fun too.  We got to celebrate two birthdays on one day.  Happy Birthday again to Rowan and Pascale.  The day after their birthday, we got to say good-bye to our neighbors, Elbow Park School.  Our whole school went outside with signs to wave good-bye while they got on their school buses.  Some of the kids are really sad about it.  It might be a little weird not having all those extra kids around.  The parking lot sure will look different.

Have a great weekend and see you next Monday morning.

2017 Begins!

Happy New Year and welcome back.  We had a very short week to welcome us back.  With only three days of school, it was a bit of a whirlwind.  Still, we managed a little more exploration into the science of magnets, we did a little bit of catching up with classmates about our holidays, wrote about them, and then on Friday everyone was able to get a little bit of experience trying snowshoes in the fresh snow on school grounds.  Bam! Week one of 2017 was over.

As we start our second week a few reminders may be in order.  Please remember to send library books and home reading books to school on Tuesday.  We will be having a spelling test on Friday.  This week's words are from the "ain" word family.  They are: rain, drain, chain, pain, and train.  Lastly, with Calgary weather being unpredictable, please make sure that each day students are prepared to go outside.  If we have another chance to try snowshoeing, or in case the weather warms up enough for us to go outside (> -20 C) we always need to be prepared.  :)
